Information for Hikers

Staying at Marouka

A visit to Mt Hotham and staying at a club lodge is a unique experience and takes a little planning.  It is worth reading the section in this site about staying at Marouka. This includes information on location and how to get there.

Marouka is an ideal place to base yourself for hiking, do the Falls-Hotham Alpine Crossing or have some rest days whilst walking the AAWT. Accommodation is available throughout summer – please check the availability and book through our booking system on our website.

So long as we aren’t fully booked, we can usually amend your booking if you get delayed in bad weather etc so long as you let us know in advance.

There is good phone reception on Bogong High Plains (if coming from North) and some places along the Barry Mountains (from the south).

If you need to leave your car for the duration of the hike, let the Lodge Manager know so they are aware it’s yours and can keep an eye on it.

We have a drying room!  Please leave all dirty/wet hiking gear downstairs. The drying room has good storage and hanging space – it’s usually off over summer but the Lodge Manager can turn it on if needed.

Food Drops

Marouka is able to store food drops for those walking the Australian Alps Walking Track. Leaving items is at your own risk. Drops can be stored in our attic that is behind a locked door, so it is fairly safe.

Please follow the following tips:

– Place in a secure (critter proof) box.

– Label clearly with your name, expected arrival and a phone number.

Some people place a large prepaid post pack in their food drop to post any items to be kept home (e.g. spare clothes that are in your drop!).  With some planning, this can save you from needing to collect your Mt Hotham drop after your walk. Storage crates in clean good condition can be donated to Marouka if you don’t want to collect afterwards.

See the Marouka Stay Information section in this site for information about mail and postage.
